Title Dept. of Art & Art History -Instructor/Assistant Professor, Graphics (full-time, temporary, 1 year) Rank Instructor Tenure Information 1 year Temp Department Summary The Department of Art and Art History seeks candidates for a full-time, 1 year, benefited faculty position in Graphics for the 2024- 2025 academic year.The mission of the Department of Art and Art History at Bridgewater State University is to engage students in the exploration and development of their individual creative interests and skills, and their art historical knowledge, analytical abilities and research experience. Our faculty strives to provide an environment in which students can investigate a full range of artistic expressions in the traditional studio and graphic arts, as well as in new technologies, within low-enrollment classes that promote a sense of community and positive learning experiences through strong student-teacher relationships. It is the Department of Art and Art History's conviction that the teaching of art is most successful when art teachers' philosophical and pedagogical approach is informed by their own studio practice. Students within our program develop knowledge and skills in at least one area and are expected to create a cohesive body of artwork in tandem with their Education degree. Essential Duties As a temporary full-time faculty member in the department of Art and Art History, the successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in traditional graphic design as well as time-based media and interactive design, helping students develop a comprehensive understanding of design concepts and techniques across various mediums and student advising.Key Responsibilities: Develop and deliver engaging curriculum in traditional graphic design and time-based media such as "web-art" vs. "web-design". Advise, mentor and support students in their creative journey; provide constructive feedback and guidance. Participate in departmental initiatives and committee work Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the overall learning experience and foster a vibrant creative community. Required Qualifications Successful candidates will have experience working with diverse student populations from a wide range of age, ethnicity, national origin, and ability; engage in and develop innovative teaching strategies; effectively assess student learning outcomes. MFA in Graphic Design, and/or related field. Proven experience in teaching at the university level or equivalent professional experience. Demonstrated expertise in both traditional graphic design principles and time-based media. Ability to teach foundational studio courses. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a passion for mentoring students.
