You will coordinate the care and treatment of animals in isolation, intensive care units, to ensure complete and humane care is given in a timely manner. Compile and report on all departmental activities of the overseen medical areas. Train new staff members, create staffing schedules, approve time cards, and coach staff as required. Coordinate activities with other departments to ensure efficient flow and treatment of all patients. Evaluate, update and implement new/existing policies and procedures to keep medical areas in adherence to all board, OSHA, and AAHA requirements. Essential Duties: Oversee daily operations in Kitten Nursery, Puppy Parvo ICU, Meowternity Suites and Mutternity Suites as well as the Bottle Baby ICU (BBICU) which is open 24-hours a day. Coordinate, train staff/volunteers, evaluate and direct the activities of Kitten Nursery and Bottle Baby ICU. Perform technician duties alongside medical teams. Coordinates the care, medications, and daily treatment of animals in these areas. Responsible for ordering/restocking and cleanliness of areas on a daily basis. Inform Veterinarians regarding status of all animals in isolation and ICU areas. Create a plan with leadership and DVM's to continue movement for animals through Kitten Nursery, Puppy Parvo ICU, Baby ICU, Mutternity and Meowternity Suites with an expected length of stay of seven days or less. Determine which pets are candidates for foster or rescue. Communicate with appropriate departments on capacity levels. Maintain controlled substance log. Promote safety on a continual basis; promptly report all on-the-job injuries sustained by medical staff working in isolation, ICU's, areas to the Shelter Medical Manager. Ensure compliance for our Premise are met and maintained. Prepare medical areas for inspection to maintain certification. Regularly evaluate department staff, policies, and procedures to determine opportunities for improvement and ensure that department goals are achieved. Maintain a positive working environment, team morale and mediate interpersonal conflicts between employees. Set staff schedules, approve requests for time off and approve time sheets for Payroll. Perform interviews and make hiring recommendations. Coach employees on job performance and goal setting. Collaborate with Manager on performance issues, documentation and staff reviews. Create, maintain and update standard operating procedure documents. Create training documents and online training content for volunteers and staff. Maintain Chameleon and iDashboard data reporting and documentation including the monthly board report. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Education / Certifications / Licenses: High school diploma/GED Graduation from technical school required Experience: Two years experience working in the veterinary field required. Two years of supervisory experience is required. Must be able to fulfill all duties of a Clinic Technician II or CVT. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Excellent attention to detail, be able to solve complex problems with the ability to balance multiple priorities and delegate when appropriate. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills with an emphasis on relationship building and conflict resolution. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities: Language - Able to speak, read, write and understand English. Mathematical - Basic Technical - Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Explorer; able to learn other software programs as necessary. Proficiency with or able to learn/use Chameleon software (for use with animals in a shelter environment). Other: Regular attendance and punctuality required. Work Environment / Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. There may be occasional wet floors, animal noises, odors, and dander. There will be exposure to dust, heat and temperature changes. Most time will be spent in a typical air conditioned and heated office environment.
