Department Aerial Department Department Mission The Rocks/Canopy Instructor is responsible for providing a safe, fun, educational and engaging canopy tour/climbing experience at The Summit. Location Summit Bechtel Reserve (SBR) Contract Time Period: C May 24 - Aug 7 Monthly Salary $1190 - $1470 + Room & Board Direct Report Canopy Tour Manager Employee Profile and Desired Traits ● High level emotional intelligence ● Active in team dynamics, conflict prevention /resolution , and identifying customer needs ● Cheerful attitude and servant leadership disposition ● Dedicated customer service and people oriented ● Adaptability in a fast-paced environment with ability to learn ● Ability to interact with men and women of all ages and maturity levels of staff/customers Principle Responsibilities ● Maintain a friendly, cheerful, and helpful attitude to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. ● Provides instruction in climbing and rappelling techniques to participants. ● Provide first line supervision of climbing activities during operations. ● Become familiar with all the proper gear supplied prior to the camping season ● Become thoroughly familiar with all information relative to the climbing and rappelling facilities ● Participate in the specialized program training during the staff training period. 4 ● Continue on-the-job training throughout the season ● Other duties or projects as assigned by SBR leadership ● Abide by policies and procedure outlined in the SBR staff handbook Qualifications & Training ● 18 years of age or older ● Must be able to complete Guide Training and assessment (provided) ● Preferred: Possess current First Aid and CPR and AED certification ● Preferred: ACCT Level 2 Practitioner Certification and/or BSA C.O.P.E. Level 2 Instructor Certification ● Preferred: Experience guiding/facilitating and managing others ● Ability to use Microsoft Teams daily for work related communication and coordination ● Be or become a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America Performance Results ● Completes contract period with 2-4 positive experiences ● Receive one or more Staff Appreciation Cards from staff or participants ● Contribute at least one improvement to the Rocks/Canopy program ● Provide at least one memorable moment that matters to a participant Physical Requirements ● Up to 8 hours a day of either standing, walking, hiking, and the ability to lift 50-70 lbs. ● Comfortable at heights of 6' to 180' ● Can pass the physical exam and approved for SBR height and weight requirements HERE Uniform Summit staff uniform Housing 10x12' Platform Tent; Foxtrot Base Camp Expected Weekly Hours 45 - 55
